FTCE- Florida Teacher Certification Examinations

Includes the General Knowledge Test (GKT), Professional Education Test (PEd), Subject Area Examinations (SAE), and the Florida Educational Leadership Examination (FELE)


Professional Certification Examinations


Florida law requires that teachers demonstrate mastery of basic skills, professional knowledge, and content area of specialization. If you are currently a student, you should consult your college advisor about testing requirements. A valid Statement of Status of Eligibility issued by the Bureau of Educator Certification will advise you of your individual testing requirements. General Knowledge Test : An exam of basic skills and consists of four subtests: Essay, English Language Skills (ELS), Reading, and Mathematics.

Professional Education Test: A test of pedagogy and professional practices.

Subject Area Examinations: There are 42 different SAEs, including Elementary Education K-6 which is required for the MAT graduate students and the undergraduate elementary education student, and the Reading K-12 which is required for the MA in Reading graduate student.

FELE: For the certification of administrators (such as school principals) and consists of three subtests: Subtest 1: Instructional Leadership, Subtest 2: Operational Leadership, Subtest 3: School Leadership.  This test is required for the M.Ed. in Educational Leadership K-12 concentration graduate student and the Post-Master in Educational Leadership student.

Format and Delivery:

All FTCE/FELE examinations are administered via a computer-based program at designated test sites. Site locations and information for these exams can be found at this link:  http://www.fldoe.org/asp/ftce/ftceloc.asp   Official score reports will be available online approximately 4-6 weeks later.

Registration Process:

Registration for all sections of the FTCE/FELE is completed online at http://www.fl.nesinc.com/. Questions regarding registration may be directed to FTCE by calling (866) 613-3281.

Retest Policies:

Test-takers must wait 31 calendar days after taking a test before retaking a failed exam. Retaking an exam within this time period will result in scores being invalidated. To retake a test, please submit a new registration and pay the retake fee online at http://www.fl.nesinc.com/..
